BER: Chief Of Forikrom’s Indiscriminate land sales puts town’s future in Jeopardy- Adehyepanin warns of destoolment

There is looming tension in the Forikrom Community in the Techiman Traditional Area of Bono East Region as the people are unhappy with their Chief, Okogyeaman Kesse Basahyia 2nd, over the indiscriminate sale of lands in the area.

Addressing a press conference in Techiman on Monday, Nana Opoku Kwabena Kyeremeh, the Adehyepanin of Forikrom, said the reign of Okogyeaman Kesse Basahyia as Chief of Forikrom, who doubles as the Benkumhene of Techiman Traditional Area, has been characterized by serious division amongst members of the Besease Royal Family, and there is an urgent need for him to mend his ways or the Kingmakers will be forced to destool him.

He said all the Kingmakers in the family have resolved to take drastic action to vacate Okogyeaman Kesse Basahyia as Chief of Forikrom if he continues to forcefully take over and sell people’s lands to enrich himself without accounting to the Family or embarking on any developmental projects to benefit the entire Forikrom Community.

Nana Opoku Kyeremeh continued that it is unfortunate that Forikrom has been without a Queen Mother in the past eighteen (18) years; therefore, Okogyeaman Kesse Basahyia should expedite action to meet with the Kingmakers to select a rightful occupant for the vacant stool of Queen Mother.

Finally, some irate Kingmakers of the Besease Royal Family who attended the press conference called on President John Mahama, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Council Oseadeyor Akumfi Ameyaw 4th, the Minister for Chieftaincy, the Bono East Regional Minister, and the Security Services to quickly intervene in the raging Forikrom dispute in order to avert possible violence.
