In a significant milestone for the mining sector in the Western North Region, the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Mineral Commission Office Complex. In his address, the President of the National house of Chiefs, who doubles as the Paramount chief of Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Ogyeahohor Yaw Gyebi II, called for sustainable mining than illegal mining. He said the call for a state of emergency to ban mining will create unemployment in the society, how he urged the government to put measures in place to ensure proper mining is done to the benefits of Ghanaians.
He reiterated the call on mining companies within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai vicinity to open their doors for recruitment opportunities for the youth as well as internship opportunities.
The Minister for Natural resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor says his outfit will ensure strict compliance of mining laws in the country to ensure anyone who flouts the laws will be dealt with. He cautioned individuals who are engaged in illegal mining to refrain from that.
However, he stated the commitment of the Npp government fight against galamsey.
Mr. Jinapor urged the staff employed in the edifice to practice maintenance culture.
Hon. Paul Andoh, the Municipal Chief Executive, on his part thanked the Npp government for considering the plight of the people on Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai to give them such a nice edifice. He pledge to ensure it serve its purpose for the growth of the community.
