Story by Isaac Opoku Jnr. (Prof. Ike)
A devastating fire swept through Bibiani Estate in the Western North Region, engulfing two buildings and sending residents fleeing for safety. The inferno, sparked by a thunderstorm and fueled by strong winds and closely-packed structures, was described by eyewitnesses as “apocalyptic.”
As the fire raged on, firefighters from the Bibiani Fire Service rushed to the scene, battling to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other nearby buildings. Mr. Isaac Opoku Junior, a concerned citizen who witnessed the fire, expressed his heartbreak at the disaster, emphasizing the need for the community to come together to support those affected and work towards preventing similar disasters in the future.
According to reports, the fire was caused by a combination of a lightning strike from the thunderstorm and poor electrical connections in the buildings. Mr. Opoku Junior urged the Ghana Electricity Company to take immediate action to prevent similar incidents, including regular electrical inspections and upgrading outdated electrical infrastructure.
He also commended the efforts of the Bibiani Fire Service and the Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, who provided the fire service with a borehole, greatly enhancing their ability to respond to fires. Mr. Opoku Junior advised citizens of Bibiani to be vigilant and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms.
