GALAMSEY FIGHT:Ditch Politics, Save Ghana Now- Says Alhaji Abdul Rahman

The fight against galamsey has taken a critical turn, with calls for collective action and an end to politicking. Alhaji Abdul Rahman Halidu, Coordinator for the Western North Regional Chief Imam, has made a passionate appeal to ditch politics in addressing this menace.

“It’s very unfortunate why policymakers are playing politics with the fight against this deadly menace,” Alhaji Halidu lamented. He emphasized that galamsey’s devastating impact on Ghana’s environment, water resources, and economy demands a unified response.

The Coordinator stressed the crucial role traditional leaders can play in addressing the issue. “It’s very crucial the government involves traditional leaders in the fight,” he said, highlighting the need for collaboration.

Beyond galamsey, Alhaji Halidu highlighted the interconnected issues affecting Ghana’s youth. “Higher unemployment rates have contributed to the abuse of opioids and other addictions,” he noted, calling for employment opportunities to support vulnerable youth.

This observation underscores the complexity of the challenges facing Ghana. Addressing galamsey and substance abuse requires a comprehensive approach that includes economic empowerment.

Alhaji Halidu also criticized street vendors who exploit opportunities to sell illicit drugs, urging them to cease such activities. He emphasized the need for community stakeholders to work together to protect Ghana’s youth.

Furthermore, Alhaji Halidu urged Imams and stakeholders to preach against opioid abuse, emphasizing its destructive impact on young lives and potential to lead them to incarceration.

The Coordinator’s appeal highlights the urgent need for collective action. Galamsey and substance abuse threaten Ghana’s future, and it’s essential that stakeholders put aside differences to address these challenges.

Ghana’s leaders must prioritize the nation’s interests over political considerations. The fight against galamsey and substance abuse demands a sustained commitment to protecting the country’s environment, youth, and economy.

By working together, Ghanaians can overcome these challenges and build a brighter future for themselves and future generations. Alhaji Halidu’s appeal serves as a timely reminder of the need for collective action in addressing these pressing issues.
