Agogoso, Nyinahin, Ashanti Region, Ghana The National Democratic Congress (NDC) wishes to
unequivocally condemn the recent unprovoked attack on our (NDC) member and supporters by members
of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Nyinahin, during an event organized by the District Assembly
to officially outdoor the Atwima Mponua district’s DRIP equipment.
1. The NDC and its Parliamentary Candidate who isa forner DCE of the district, were officially
invited to the function. Due to the nationalistic nature of the event, and given the fact that the NDC
is a patriotic institution, the Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. Stephen Yeboah, along with some of
the constituency executives and the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party attended the event.
2. The NDC team arived at the event when it was on the verge of commencement. While exchanging
pleasantries with the dignitaries at the event, it would interest you to note that out of intolerance,
Mr. Seth Akoto Osei, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for the Atwima Constituency, declined to
shake hands with Hon. Stephen Yeboah, when the latter offered to do so.
3. It is worthy of note that even though Hon. Stephen Yeboah is a former DCE, no room was made
for him make any speech per the program outline but room was made for both the NPP
Parliamentary Candidate as well as the NPP Chairman for the Atwima Mponua Constituency.
Despite the glaring bias and partisanship displayed by the organizers of the event, the NDC tolerated
it and never complained.
4. The NPP Chairman, Mr. Collins Addai, rather used the platform offered to him to attack the person
of the NDC Parliamentary Candidate as well as engage in the highest level of vile propaganda. He
propagated palpable falsehood against Hon. Yeboah at the gathering, right in his presence, and
without any provocation.
5. Since we, the NDC, were present at the event too, there was the need to offer a response to the
allegations leveled against our Parliamentary Candidate and also offer some admonishment in
furtherance of patriotic and nationalistic ideals needed to build the Ghana we want. To this end,
the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC used the platform to deliver an address where he
admonished/cautioned the assembly and other attendees against using the DRIP equipment for
illegal mining (Galamsey’).
He reminded them of the fact that the DRIP is being bankrolled by the
Ghanaian taxpayer and must therefore be managed judiciously and fairly.
