RESPONSE TO FALSE CLAIMS BY THE NKORANZA SOUTH NDC YOUTH WING AGAINST MRS. HARRIET OPPONG KYEREMANTENG

The attention of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Nkoranza South has been drawn to a press release from the Youth Wing of the NDC in Nkoranza South. This release is riddled with baseless allegations against our Parliamentary Candidate, Mrs. Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng, accusing her of obstructing developmental projects initiated by the sitting MP, Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum. We wish to state unequivocally that these accusations are completely false and an attempt to mislead the good people of Nkoranza South.

First and foremost, Mrs. Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng has never interfered with any developmental projects being undertaken by Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum. Specifically, regarding the recent claims about the installation of streetlights at the Nkoranza old marketplace, the NDC’s narrative is entirely fabricated. The facts are as follows:

The Nkoranza old marketplace is part of a broader rehabilitation project awarded by the Municipal Assembly. Phase 1, which involved the rehabilitation of the old story building, paving works, and the construction of new shelves for traders, has already been completed. Phase 2 of the project, which includes the extension of pavement, construction of sanitation facilities, and the installation of streetlights, has been awarded to a contractor, who is preparing to commence work.

It is important to clarify that the Municipal Assembly’s engineer, not Mrs. Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng, informed Hon. Agyekum and his team about the ongoing project at the old marketplace. The engineer advised them to channel their resources to another area that urgently required streetlights, as Phase 2 of the old market’s rehabilitation project, which includes lighting, was about to commence. At no point did Mrs. Kyeremanteng instruct anyone to stop the MP from installing streetlights, and the Assembly acted in the best interest of the project’s progress.

Similarly, the Nsunensa road project, which the NDC falsely claims was obstructed by Mrs. Harriet Oppong Kyeremanteng, is a government-funded project under the Road Fund. The construction company, FABDONKOR, which is executing the project, is affiliated with the MP. However, this does not mean that Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum is personally executing the rehabilitation of the Nsunensa Meta road. Mrs. Kyeremanteng has never interfered with this or any other legitimate projects in Nkoranza South. In fact, during a recent campaign in Nsunensa, Mrs. Kyeremanteng set the record straight, only to be met with aggression from the MP’s team, which disrupted her campaign.

The NDC’s press statement conveniently ignores the fact that Mrs. Kyeremanteng has been instrumental in bringing numerous development projects to the constituency, including the construction of the new market, installation of 6 kilometers of streetlights, development of 9.9 kilometers of town roads, an ultra-modern sports facility, solar lighting in 42 communities, 50 boreholes in Nkoranza and surrounding areas, and the construction of network poles in over 15 communities. In addition, she has built the human capacity of Nkoranza by facilitating the recruitment of our youth into security services, teaching, nursing, Cocobod, and other sectors, as well as training the youth in skilled jobs and facilitating agricultural inputs for farmers, just to mention a few.

These accomplishments speak for themselves and highlight her commitment to the development of Nkoranza. It is ironic for the NDC to accuse her of obstructing progress when it is their MP who has consistently sought to hijack government projects for political gain.

We urge Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum to focus on facilitating new projects for the benefit of the people, rather than constantly seeking to undermine the work of others. His actions are a disservice to the constituency and only serve to create unnecessary tension.

The people of Nkoranza South deserve peace, development, and cooperation, not petty political games. We remain committed to working for the betterment of our community, and we call on all well-meaning residents to reject these falsehoods.

Signed,
DWOMO KOFI JAMES
