NPP’S BIG BLOW~Time For New Leadership •First Vice Chair

First National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dankwa Smith Butey, has called for a complete overhaul of the party’s current leadership. He believes that none of the executives should be re-elected, citing their failure to deliver on their mandate.

According to Butey, the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections is a major setback that warrants change. “From 137 seats to 88 is a significant blow,” he said. “I didn’t even expect us to lose the election, so the outcome was surprising.”

Butey’s comments came in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. He expressed his disappointment with the party’s performance, stating, “For over two weeks, I couldn’t collect myself.”

The NPP’s First National Vice Chairman emphasized the need for bold steps to re-strategize and rebuild the party’s base. This, he believes, is crucial to regaining public confidence and electoral strength.

“We all need to go home for new, experienced people to come and lead the party,” Butey said. “I’m not saying the current executives are not experienced, but we have failed.” This statement underscores his conviction that a leadership change is necessary for the party’s success.

The NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections was a significant setback for the party. Dropping from 137 seats to 88 was a major blow, and the party’s leadership is still grappling with the aftermath.

A post-mortem analysis of the party’s defeat revealed several factors that contributed to the loss. These included a disconnect between the government and the party, arrogance of power, and internal bickering. The party’s leadership is now tasked with addressing these issues and finding a way forward.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has emphasized the need for the party to learn from its mistakes and implement changes to prevent similar defeats in the future. This includes prioritizing key projects in the party’s strongholds and improving relationships between the government and the party.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s running mate, has also reflected on the party’s loss. He called for a period of honest introspection and reflection, emphasizing the importance of respecting the will of Ghanaians. Despite the defeat, he remains optimistic about the party’s future.

As the NPP looks to the future, it will be crucial for the party to rebuild its base and regain public confidence. By addressing internal conflicts, improving party-government relations, and prioritizing key projects, the party can work towards a stronger future and potentially regain the trust of Ghanaians.
