The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sefwi Akontombra, Hon. Joseph Appiah (aka Amonia), has blown the lid off the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) fake news agenda in the area, claiming that about four persons died within the month of April as a result of illegal mining activities in the area. During a joint tour of reclaimed sites with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Akontombra, Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah, Hon. Amonia expressed overwhelming disappointment at the bunch of lies peddled by NPP folks and their allies.
The DCE says that although one person was reported dead, it had nothing to do with illegal mining and that it was a last-year incident before the NDC took over. He said the NPP dug several pits in the forest during their time, which may have caused the death of innocent souls. He wondered how they had turned around to blame the NDC-led administration, which had spent only a few months in office, for such a long-standing mess in the area. “This is virtually palpable lies,” he said. “The NPP has been in the web of fake news, and they cannot run away from it. This is a pit that was dug some six years back during the NPP’s tenure, and perhaps they are the cause of the problem.”
He said that even with his few weeks in office, he had called all the miners in the area for crucial meetings concerning the process of reclaiming the pits dug out by the NPP. Evidently, there were reclamation exercises ongoing on the said pits. Moreover, the DCE and the MP took time out of their busy schedules to inspect the progress of work on the reclaimed sites, and what they witnessed starkly contradicted the false narratives being spun by the NPP.
Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah, the MP, echoed the DCE’s sentiments, stating that the NPP’s lies were not only malicious but also aimed at misleading the good people of Sefwi Akontombra. He assured residents that his team would continue to work tirelessly to bring development to the area, despite the NPP’s attempts to sabotage their efforts.
The joint tour of the reclaimed sites was a resounding success, with residents and stakeholders alike expressing gratitude for the government’s efforts in transforming the area. The DCE and MP’s team has been working diligently to improve infrastructure, agriculture, and social services in Sefwi Akontombra.
During the tour, Hon. Amonia and Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah pointed out specific areas where the NPP’s lies had been exposed, citing examples such as River Akontombra, the only source of drinking water for the Akontombra community, which had been deeply polluted by the NPP’s galamsey activities. There was a process to ensure it came back to its normal state. “These are the facts on the ground,” Hon. Nkuah said. “The NPP’s propaganda cannot change the reality of what we are seeing here.”
The DCE and MP’s message was clear: the people of Sefwi Akontombra deserve the truth, and they will not be swayed by the NPP’s fake news agenda. Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah vowed to continue working for the betterment of his constituents, undeterred by the NPP’s attempts to discredit him.
The Sefwi Akontombra District Police Commander ASP Samuel Atta on his part, stated emphatically and clearly that the purported report of four persons dead in the month of April was a hoax. He said there were only two separate incidents last year before the elections, where one was an unnatural death and one was as a result of a suspected murder case. He called for accurate reporting on the part of the media to avoid any future misleading stories.
Residents of Sefwi Akontombra have welcomed the DCE and MP’s stance against the NPP’s lies, praising their commitment to transparency and accountability. “We are grateful for their leadership,” said one resident. “They tell us the truth, and we appreciate their honesty.”
The NPP’s fake news agenda has been widely criticized in recent weeks, with many calling out the party’s blatant disregard for the truth. The DCE and MP’s expose is just the latest in a long line of revelations that have embarrassed the NPP and exposed their tactics.
As leaders in Sefwi Akontombra, Hon. Amonia and Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah have earned a reputation for their dedication to the people they serve. Their commitment to transparency and accountability has endeared them to residents, who appreciate their willingness to listen and act on their concerns.
The people of Sefwi Akontombra look forward to continued development and progress under the leadership of Hon. Amonia and Hon. Pious Kwame Nkuah. As for the NPP, it’s back to the drawing board – their lies have been exposed once
