THIEVES TERRORISE BIBIANI● Kwamekrom Newsite, Estate, Ahodwo and Gyedi Residents Call for IGP’s Intervention

Residents of Kwamekrom Newsite, Estate, Ahodwo and Gyedi in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality have raised alarm over what they describe as a disturbing increase in theft and burglary cases in their communities. They say the growing wave of crime has created fear and anxiety, making it difficult for many households to sleep peacefully at night.

According to the residents, suspected thieves have become increasingly daring, striking during the late hours of the night and the early hours of the morning. They claim that midnight thefts and dawn raids have become frequent, leaving many victims devastated.

Some affected residents alleged that cash, mobile phones, television sets, laptops, electrical appliances and other valuable household items have been stolen during the attacks. They believe the criminals deliberately target homes while occupants are asleep.

The residents said the persistent thefts have disrupted their sense of security, forcing many families to remain awake through the night to guard their homes and property. They fear the situation could worsen if urgent action is not taken.

They have therefore appealed to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to intervene by increasing police patrols in the affected communities. According to them, a stronger security presence, especially at night and during the early hours of the morning, would help deter criminals and restore public confidence.

The residents also called on the Bibiani Divisional Police Command to intensify intelligence gathering, respond promptly to distress calls and work closely with community members to identify and arrest those responsible for the crimes.

They further appealed to traditional authorities, assembly members and opinion leaders to collaborate with the police in strengthening community policing initiatives. They noted that collective vigilance and cooperation are essential in the fight against crime.

The residents urged members of the public to remain alert, report suspicious activities to the police and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. They stressed that timely reporting and community cooperation are crucial to addressing the growing menace.

They also called on the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly to support efforts to improve security by maintaining streetlights in the affected communities and addressing environmental conditions that may provide hiding places for criminals.

The residents expressed hope that the authorities would respond swiftly to their concerns. They said they look forward to concrete measures to curb the rising incidents of midnight thefts and dawn raids, restore peace to Kwamekrom Newsite, Estate, Ahodwo and Gyedi, and enable residents to go about their daily lives without fear.
