As Ghana prepares for its 2024 general elections, influential voices are urging clergy to use their pulpits to preach peace and unity. The former assembly member for Adobewura electoral area in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency of the western north region, Hon. Bismark Offin has emphasized the crucial role faith-based organizations play in fostering stability in society, asking them to step up efforts to ensure an incident-free election.
He said it’s very crucial for the clergymen add their voices to call for peace ahead of the elections.
These calls to action underscore the significance of promoting peace and stability during the upcoming elections. By using their pulpits to preach peace, clergy can help diffuse tension and acrimony, promoting a sense of unity and cooperation among their congregations. This, in turn, can contribute to a conducive environment for peaceful elections, allowing citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.
The sharp politician urged young people to avoid participating in illegal activities and emphasized the importance of valuing their lives and carefully considering the messages of individual politicians before voting for them.
He said there’s no need for violent attacks on each other, since we are one.
“Clergy, media etc. play a vital role in shaping public opinion and influencing societal values. By preaching peace and unity, they can help counter hate speeches and divisive rhetoric that often characterize political campaigns. Moreover, their messages of peace and love can inspire individuals to work towards the common good, rather than pursuing narrow partisans activities”, he stated.
“I will call on the youth to desist from involving themselves into activities that endanger their future. Instead, they prioritize their lives and weigh messages carried out by these political parties, the one that can fetch them job opportunities before voting for them”.
As Ghana approaches the 2024 polls, it is essential for clergy to take the lead in promoting peace and stability. By doing so, they can help ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election, which is critical for the country’s democratic growth and development. Let us join hands in urging clergy to use their pulpits to preach peace and unity, and let us work together towards a brighter future for Ghana.
