Tension is mounting in Atwima Nwabiagya South as some aggrieved members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have launched a scathing attack on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, accusing him of neglect, disrespect, and undermining the party’s grassroots structures.
According to the members, Hon. Osei Boamah has persistently sidelined their leadership in key government interventions, especially the District Roads Infrastructure Programme (DRIP). They lament that despite the party’s significant contribution to the NDC’s electoral performance in the 2024 election, the MCE has refused to engage or recognize their efforts, giving the slot for coordinator to an unknown person.
Speaking in an interview with the press, they described the MCE’s leadership style as a “mafia game,” suggesting that he is deliberately isolating their members from the decision-making process while favoring a small circle of loyalists. “This is not what we fought for. We won this election with sweat, but the MCE has turned his back on us,” one executive fumed.
They further criticized Hon. Osei Boamah for showing gross disrespect to party coordinators and foot soldiers. “Not even a word of appreciation has come from him to those who walked miles, campaigned, and stood in the sun and rain to ensure victory. Instead, we are met with silence and disdain,” another constituency executive said.
What has angered many party members the most is the alleged use of intimidation tactics. The NDC claims that the MCE is using the police and national security operatives to harass and monitor their members, creating fear among supporters and threatening their right to organize freely.
The members also alleged that Hon. Boamah has been deploying known thugs to instill fear among dissenting voices, especially those who question his leadership style or seek more accountability. “This level of tyranny is unacceptable. We will not sit back and allow one man to destroy the peace and unity of our party,” a youth organizer stated.
Calling on the President and the Ashanti Regional Minister, the NDC urged swift intervention to restore calm and ensure that party members are treated with the dignity and fairness they deserve. “We want to see inclusive governance at the local level. The MCE must be reminded that power is a responsibility, not a privilege for revenge,” they added.
The party’s call comes amid growing dissatisfaction among the NDC’s grassroots across the municipality, with many warning that morale is fast declining. Some have even threatened to withdraw their support for future elections if the current trend continues.
They demanded immediate inclusion in all local development activities and fair representation in appointments, arguing that marginalizing the very people who worked for power is not only unjust but politically reckless.
