Bibiani’s Pragya Riders Cut Fare By 10%

The Bibiani branch of the National Union of Tricycle Operators Ghana (NUTOG) has reduced transport fares by 10%, led by the branch chairman, Mr. Anthony Fiifi Affum. This initiative responds to the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi, which has eased financial pressure on operators and the public.

Mr. Affum explained that the fare reduction was also influenced by a directive from NUTOG’s national leadership. Unlike other commercial transport groups, the association operates independently of the GPRTU and makes its own policy decisions for the benefit of its members and commuters.

Currently, some areas within Bibiani have experienced a fare drop from thirty pesewas to twenty pesewas, a move that has brought immediate financial relief to daily commuters.

Mr. Affum emphasized the need for strict compliance with traffic laws. He urged riders to operate safely and avoid reckless behaviour, underlining the association’s responsibility to ensure road safety and protect lives.

He also addressed issues of professionalism, stating that riders must act responsibly and provide dependable transport services. To reinforce this, the association plans to conduct regular training and educational workshops for its members.

The chairman further cautioned against drug abuse among riders, noting its dangers to both public safety and the association’s reputation. He added that discipline and role modelling were crucial in winning public trust.

Mr. Affum used the opportunity to praise the NDC government for its support and efforts to involve Pragya operators in national policy-making, describing it as a sign of inclusion and recognition.

Following the chairman’s speech, the P.R.O. for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai branch, Rev. Peter Douti, also appealed to riders to stay away from drugs and uphold the association’s image. He called on members to remain professional and lead by example in the community.

Elder Daniel Arthur, the branch organiser, encouraged the public to report misconduct by riders and urged all operators to abide by the law. He further advised vehicle owners to monitor their riders and ensure they operate responsibly.

In conclusion, commuters have welcomed the fare cut, expressing appreciation for the relief it offers. The association reaffirmed its commitment to safety, professionalism, and affordability while calling on the authorities to support their efforts in ensuring discipline and order on the roads.
