The Assembly Member for the Surano A Electoral Area in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Hon. Atta Francis, has issued a heartfelt appeal to individuals, institutions, and philanthropists to support the renovation of a deteriorating Surano school that currently serves primary and junior high pupils in the community.
According to Hon. Atta Francis, although the school block is in use, its unconducive environment and poor state pose a serious risk to both students and teachers. Cracks in the walls, a leaking roof, and an overall unsafe learning environment have made it imperative to call for urgent intervention to restore the facility. He noted that many children in Surano and surrounding communities are compelled to study in classrooms with leaking roofs due to the poor condition of the block and failing infrastructure.
He emphasized that providing a safe and conducive learning environment is a collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to join forces with the community to renovate the block. “Education remains the most sustainable investment we can make in our society—but with a safe and comfortable environment,” he stated.
Hon. Atta Francis outlined several critical needs required for the renovation, including roofing sheets, fascia boards, ceiling panels, windows, doors, and painting materials. He revealed that although some support has come through donors and benevolent individuals, the scale of deterioration and cost of refurbishment will require all hands on deck.
“To restore the block to a safe and usable state, the donation of essential materials like roofing sheets, paints, and fascia boards is crucial,” he said. “These contributions will go a long way in safeguarding the lives and academic future of our children.”
He commended a number of benevolent individuals and groups who have already pledged their support, describing their commitment as a beacon of hope. He also called on natives of Surano living outside the community to emulate this patriotic gesture.
“As a professional teacher, I know the impact a good learning environment has on academic performance and teacher morale,” Hon. Francis remarked. “This is why I’m leading this cause—not just as an Assembly Member, but as someone deeply invested in the future of our children.”
He assured potential donors of transparency and accountability, stating that he and the community’s project committee will ensure proper documentation and regular updates on the use of all resources received.
In a final appeal, he called on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai to lend their support. He expressed optimism that their involvement would greatly enhance the renovation efforts and affirm their commitment to improving educational infrastructure in the constituency.
