The Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brentum, has charged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the region to address the galamsey menace. Speaking yesterday in Bibiani at the confirmation exercise of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Brentum emphasized the need for collective action.
The minister highlighted the devastating effects of illegal mining on the environment, water bodies, and livelihoods. He urged MMDCEs to prioritize sustainable development and protect the region’s natural resources. Hon. Brentum’s call to action comes amid growing concerns about the impact of galamsey on Ghana’s ecosystem.
The minister’s commitment to addressing this issue has been welcomed by residents and stakeholders. “The fight against galamsey requires a multi-faceted approach. Hon. Brentum’s leadership will be crucial in mobilizing stakeholders and resources.”
He reiterated that MMDCEs should avoid involvement in galamsey activities and others that can bring shame to the office they occupy. He urged them to uphold their duties with all the seriousness they deserve to bring honor to themselves and H.E. John Mahama.
Hon. Brentum emphasized the need for prioritizing development and the welfare of their constituents ahead of their personal interests. “I want to charge you to put the welfare of the people ahead of your personal interest; you must prioritize development ahead of all other activities.”
The MCEs have a critical role to play in driving growth and development in their respective districts. Hon. Brentum tasked them to raise the bar of growth and development, among others. They must ensure leaving better legacies in their offices and work effectively and tirelessly.
This call to action underscores the importance of putting the needs of the people first. Hon. Brentum’s message resonated with the audience. His emphasis on collective action and sustainable development struck a chord.
The confirmation exercise was an opportunity for Hon. Brentum to outline his expectations for the MMDCEs. He seized the occasion to thank all assembly members, government appointees, family and friends, party supporters, security personnel, and other folks who made the exercise peaceful.
Hon. Brentum’s leadership will be crucial in driving growth and development in the Western North Region. His experience in regulatory roles in the mining industry positions him well to drive meaningful change.
As the region embarks on this journey, residents are eager to see tangible results. Hon. Brentum’s vision for a sustainable future is a step in the right direction.
