GAAM Mounts Pressure On MMDAs Over Payment Of Ex Gratia, Appeals To Gov’t Transition Team For Support

PRESS STATEMENT!

6/01/25

The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has mount pressure on the MMDAs to pay ex gratia due the outgoing assembly members, while appealing to the government transition team for support in ensuring the MMDAs do the needfuls. This demand is being championed by GAAM’s National President, Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, who is also vying for a position on the Council of State in the western north region of Ghana.

Hon. Ackah Nelson’s advocacy for the welfare of assembly members demonstrates his commitment to their well-being. By demanding urgent payment of ex gratia from the MMDAs, he is showing that he prioritizes the needs of these dedicated public servants.

The Local Government Ministry issued a statement about the payment of ex gratia to the assembly members but was not successful. Hon. Ackah Nelson has emphasized that a flat rate of GHC 5000 is the minimum acceptable amount, considering the hard work and dedication of assembly members over the past four years.

Delays in ex gratia payments have been a persistent issue, causing frustration among outgoing assembly members. Hon. Ackah Nelson has stressed the importance of prompt payment, highlighting the unfairness caused by these delays.

GAAM has also called on the MMDAs for the payment of unpaid allowances for the assembly members. This move aims to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities and prevent potential disputes.

Hon. Ackah Nelson’s leadership on this issue has been commendable. As someone vying for a position on the Council of State, his commitment to the welfare of assembly members is a testament to his character and dedication to public service.

The Local Government Ministry’s decision to allow Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to determine the ex gratia amount has been welcomed by GAAM. However, Hon. Ackah Nelson has urged the ministry to facilitate prompt payment and settle outstanding allowances.

GAAM’s efforts to secure fair compensation for assembly members have been ongoing. The association has rejected proposed amounts that are deemed insufficient and has called for unity among members to promote development.

In conclusion, GAAM’s call for the MMDAs to pay ex gratia to outgoing assembly members is a pressing concern. Hon. Ackah Nelson’s leadership on this issue demonstrates his commitment to the welfare of assembly members and his suitability for a position on the Council of State.
